A company “space tourism” announced that it will begin offering travel to the stratospherewithin the year, with helium balloons.

The Japanese start-up company Iwaya Giken promises passengers a view of the curvature of the Earth from an altitude 25,000 meters.

Despite the expensive price, the company’s CEO, Keisuke Iwaya, he hopes that the commercialization of space travel will eventually help bring down costs.
“The idea is to make space tourism affordable for everyone”he stated.

The features of the Iwaya Giken balloon

  • The craft consists of an airtight plastic cabin, approximately 1.5 m wide, attached to a 44 m wide helium balloon.
  • It can accommodate two passengers and offers a panoramic view of Earth from below or of space from above, through windows in the front and rear of its cabin.
