Elon Musk’s Starship launched and exploded a few seconds later in the sky.

It’s a $3 billion space rocket that could be a game-changer for long-distance space travel.

Its first launch attempt on Monday was postponed due to technical problems.

The two-story rocket, taller than the Statue of Liberty at 120 meters, was originally scheduled to launch from SpaceX’s facility in Boca Chica, Texas, during a two-hour schedule of potential launches that began at 8:00 a.m. (15:00 Greek time).

But the California-based space company announced in a live webcast in the final minutes of the countdown that it was postponing the flight attempt for at least 48 hours, citing a compression issue in the booster’s lower deck.

Launching the vehicle into space for the first time would be a milestone for SpaceX’s ambitions to send humans to the Moon and eventually to Mars — at least initially as part of NASA’s Artemis manned spaceflight program.
