No more just messages… O Elon Musk has not hidden his ambition for Twitter to compete with other social networking apps like Facebook and Viber with an “app”, and changes are coming soon.

Twitter’s CEO announced that the platform will add phone and video calling capabilities, allowing users to communicate with anyone on the platform without having to share their phone number.

In a tweet, Musk explained that the new feature will allow users to make voice calls and video calls from Twitter to any other user on the social networking platform. Users will be able to chat with people all over the world.

In addition, Musk adds encryption in direct messages (DMs) of Twitter, the ability to reply to any message in a thread, not just the most recent one, and to use any emoji reaction, not just the default ones.

Musk said the first version (1.0) of the encrypted instant messaging service is scheduled for Thursday. He emphasized that the encryption is secure enough that he would not be able to see the contents of a user’s DMs even if they threatened him “with a gun to his head.”
