Postponed shipment US Peregrine on the Moon due to technical problems encountered after the launch of the robotic vessel.

The Peregrine craft developed a critical fuel leak just hours after launch, according to Astrobotic Technology, the company responsible for the mission. The company aspired to realize the first smooth landing on the moon since the last Apollo mission in 1972.

According to Pittsburgh-based Astrobotic Technology, engineers initially identified a problem with the craft’s propulsion system after it detached from the Vulcan rocket.

They managed to temporarily orient Peregrine towards the sun so that the solar panel to collect sunlight and charge its battery. But then critical fuel loss detectedsignificantly reducing the chances of realizing the planned for on February 23 new moon.

The boat carries scientific instrumentsn for studying the lunar environment, such as the Peregrine Ion Mass Spectrometer (PITMS), for the movement of water on the Moon. Water is considered a valuable resource for future astronauts, whether for drinking or as a rocket fuel base.
