United Kingdom … “staellinika”: The digital platform for learning Greek opened in Britain

The activation of the digital platform for learning the Greek language staellinika in the United Kingdom was inaugurated by the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Andreas Katsaniotis and the Secretary General of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy Ioannis Chrysoulakis.

The event took place on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the Greek Orthodox School of Agios Kyprianos in London and was co-organized by the General Secretariat of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the above school, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Thyaretos United Kingdom.

The staellinika platform is an initiative of the General Secretariat in collaboration with the Center for Greek Studies of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) at Simon Fraser University (SFU), Vancouver, Canada, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. The staellinika platform offers Greek lessons aimed at beginners in schools, but also for home learning. The educational design of the platform is based on innovative teaching methods.

Agios Kyprianos Primary School is the first school in the United Kingdom to partner with the staellinika platform in promoting and disseminating the Greek language in the UK, while at the same time enriching the Greek curriculum it offers. It will then be distributed to all Greek language schools in the UK.

Andreas Katsaniotis, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, in charge of Hellenes Abroad, welcomed the event, emphasizing, among other things: the flame of their homeland is extinguished. The official launch of the platform was announced by Ioannis Chrysoulakis, Secretary General of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who presented the platform staellinika, while emphasizing the commitment of the General Secretariat to the preservation and dissemination of the Greek language. every corner of the globe with the help of this innovative educational tool.

The event was also greeted by His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain, Fotis Fotiou, Commissioner of the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus for Humanitarian Affairs and Overseas Affairs, and Ioannis Raptakis, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Greece. The demonstration of the educational platform was held by Professor Dimitrios Krallis, Director of the Center for Greek Studies of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and Mr. Dionysios Arkadianos, Research Coordinator at the SNF New Media Lab of the University’s Center for Greek Studies at the Foundation Canada.
