YouTube: Users will no longer be able to view dislikes in videos |

by

The number of dislikes in a video usually shows us how popular a video is or how useful it is. For example, if someone searches for a tutorial video on YouTube and the number of dislikes is greater than the number of likes, it is a good indication of how useful the video really is without having to watch it.

However, many times the dislike button becomes a tool in the hands of trolls and after extensive testing earlier in the year, YouTube decided to hide the number of dislikes from all videos.

The creator of the video will be able to see how many people have clicked dislike, but viewers while they will be able to click dislike will only see the number of likes.

Based on what we learned, we make the number of dislikes hidden throughout YouTube, but the dislike button will remain. This change begins gradually today. During our experiments we learned that some of you use the number of dislikes to decide whether to watch a video or not. We know you may not agree with this decision, but we believe it is the right decision for the platform.

YouTube experiments have shown that by hiding the number of dislikes, there has been a significant reduction in group attacks on smaller channels bombarded with dislikes.
