The announcement comes just weeks after Musk said he would move Platform X and SpaceX offices to Texas
Elon Musk announced in a post on X that he is closing the company’s offices in San Francisco.
The post was in response to a New York Times report about an email from X CEO Linda Yaccarino to staff that said the office was closing and that employees would be moving to San Jose and Palo Alto.
The announcement comes just weeks after Musk said he would move the offices of Platform X and SpaceX to Texas.
Musk cited recent laws passed by the state — particularly a new law that prevents schools from enacting rules that require staff to tell anyone, including parents, information about a child’s gender identity .
“There’s no choice. It’s impossible to operate in San Francisco if you have to pay,” the tech entrepreneur told X .
“That’s why Stripe, Block (CashApp) & others had to move,” he added, hinting that it was local laws that prompted his decision.
In July, the multi-billionaire said X and SpaceX’s offices would be moved to Texas after California introduced its new gender identity law.
At the time, Musk called the law “the last straw” in a post on X .
In 2022, Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion and immediately began making changes to the company, including cutting jobs and reducing content control on the platform.
He moved Tesla headquarters to Texas in 2021, where he resides, which has no income tax.
