An asteroid barely 1 meter across will burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere over the Philippines near the island of Luzon in a few hours, according to the European Space Agency.

The asteroid, named CAQTDL2, was discovered by the Catalina Sky Survey this morning. Such one-meter asteroids are estimated to hit Earth about every two weeks, according to the space agency, although they are rarely detected before they hit the planet.

“This is only the ninth pre-impact asteroid ever detected by mankind,” ESA tweeted.

This asteroid is harmless, as CNN reports, as it is small enough to burn up in Earth’s atmosphere upon entering it. People in the area may see a spectacular fireball. However, cloud cover from nearby Typhoon Yagi could make observations of the fireball difficult.

Typhoon Yagi lashed the northern Philippines as a tropical storm in recent days and is now a Category 3 typhoon, located about 250 miles (400 kilometers) west of Luzon, Philippines.
