Apple could announce a new low-cost version of the iPhone SE with 5G capabilities at an annual product launch event scheduled for Tuesday, analysts say.
The company is also expected to release a new version of the iPad Air and an updated version of the Mac Mini at the event.
CFRA Research analyst Angelo Zino said Apple could appeal to more price-sensitive consumers if the iPhone’s value remains the same for the new version.
“The iPhone SE really serves a lot of first-time buyers in the iPhone ecosystem who may be younger individuals,” Zino said.
The new phone would be the first update to the iPhone SE model in two years and is rumored to come with an improved camera and faster processor.
The United States, Japan and Western Europe have been key markets for iPhone SE sales in recent years, said IDC analyst Ryan Reith. Reith said these regions will likely remain key markets following the early launch of the third-generation iPhone SE.
“Currently, in most countries around the world, 5G technology is simply not good enough to create a unique and differentiated experience. over the next year or two,” said Canalys research analyst Runar Bjørhovde.
