Google Maps will be upgraded in Greece as Google announced that it will proceed with a new three-dimensional mapping of the roads from February 4.

Specifically, the new Google Maps update concerns areas of Attica, Crete, Epirus and Western Macedonia, Macedonia and Thrace, Peloponnese, Western Greece and the Ionian Sea, the Aegean, Thessaly and Central Greece.

In detail, the announcement states:

The company Google LLC announces that, during the period from 4 February 2025 to 30 October 2025will carry out three-dimensional mapping of the regions of Attica, Crete, Epirus and Western Macedonia, Macedonia and Thrace, Peloponnese, Western Greece and the Ionian, the Aegean, Thessaly and Central Greece, with vehicles and equipment that will bear the special marking “Google Street Vieww”.

The purpose of the mapping is to renew the Google Maps service, including Street View. The faces and license plates of the vehicles will be blurredso that it is not possible to recognitionbefore posting the mapped area on the Google website, https://www.google.com/maps/.

The data subject or any third party may point out the non-blurring or insufficient blurring of any person or license plate. The data subject may also request the blurring of the image of his home. The data subject has, as long as the data has not already been blurred, the right to object and may request their removal in accordance with applicable Greek and European legislation. Based on the above, the data is either blurred or deleted. The right to object can also be exercised before the mapped area is posted on the website, unless the data has already been blurred. OR blurring takes place upon request, within five days from the start of the service or, if the request is submitted after the start of the service, within five days from its submission. Primary data should not be passed on to third parties.
