Microsoft disconnects Skype once and for good. As the Technology Club announced, the 21 -year -old application through which users could make, among other things, audio and video calls, exchange conversations, etc. will download rolls in late May.

At the same time, Microsoft urges Skype users to move to the free Teams application.

Skype was at the center of interest in the 2000s, as at a time when telephone calls – and especially international – were very expensive, enabled people to talk, bypassing telecommunications companies.

Some people have forgotten that it is still available, given the many other options for conversations and calls. But the era of mobile phones and applications for free communication through various applications have blocked the Skype course, which failed to regain its lost glamor even during the pandemic, a period when it made available to its users the opportunity for free online meetings.

In fact, nowadays, there are a few who have completely forgotten its existence, given the many alternatives available in their hands.

“We have learned a lot of Skype over the years, which we have included in the teams which we have evolved over the last 7-8 years” In an interview with CNBC, Jeff Teper, president of Microsoft 365’s applications and platforms. “But we felt that now is the right time to buy and for our customers as we can offer more innovation faster and simpler, focusing only on teams.”

In the coming days, Microsoft will allow Skype users to connect to teams using the same codes, while all their contacts as well as their conversations will be automatically transferred.

“It is obviously a great time for us and we are grateful to many levels,” Teper said. “Skype has been a pioneer in audio and video calls on the internet.”
