Greece acquires one of the strongest super -calculators in Europe – “Lavrio can evolve in Silicon Valley in Greece,” the minister said characteristically
Greece is acquiring one of the strongest super-calculators in Europe as the contract for “Daedalos” is signed tomorrow, as Dimitris Papastergiou, Minister of Digital Governance, told SKAI.
The official event will take place in the Lavrion Technological – Cultural Park, as the super -calculator will be installed in the “former electric station” building.
In fact, according to Mr. Papastergiou, the work will be ready for delivery in one year.
The new national supercomputer Daedalus (Daedalus) is a evolution of the national supercomputer aris, with which they will operate complementary.
With “Daedalus” “Lavrio can evolve into Silicon Valley,” the minister said.
The project, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Digital Governance, is part of the country’s strategy to develop cutting -edge infrastructure in the field of high performance computing systems.
Daedalos will be 120 times stronger than existing ARIS supervisor, performing sixty million billions of mobile acts per second. Its architecture is ideal for hosting larger and more heterogeneous applications, combining high performance computational applications with artificial intelligence, mechanical learning and large volume analysis.
It is worth noting that the new super-calculator will have a central role, inter alia, in researching the development of new more effective and reliable services to serve citizens through natural language requests, personalized medicine, fire protection, spatial planning, and intelligent mobility.
The over-calculator has a total budget of € 41.9 million and will not only be the largest in the country but also one of the strongest in Europe.
“Daedalus” will be powered by renewable energy systems and modern cooling systems will be used to have low energy costs and minimal environmental burden.
In addition, it will be hybrid, with both high density CPUs and accelerators.
