Kilian Gross has ruled out the possibility of a radical reform of the rules and said that the application simplification is the first concern of the committee
Open to amending the EU’s artificial intelligence law after an forthcoming revision is the European Commission, as a top committee official at the Summit for Artificial Intelligence and Technology organized by Politico.
Kilian Gros, head of the artificial intelligence committee, ruled out the possibility of a radical reform of rules and said that the simplification of the application is the Commission’s first concern. But “if this is not enough, we will also consider if we need targeted changes.”
This comes as the EU reviews a number of laws in the context of a deregulation effort aimed at stimulating its economy and its global competitiveness.
When asked if the committee was open to changing the law on artificial intelligence, Gross said: “Our first focus, of course, will be to simplify the application to see what we need to do to make it easier for companies” and “nevertheless effective”.
“At the moment, I can say that we do not really predict to re -open the law on artificial intelligence,” he said, but “if something happens, it will surely get into our frame.”
He also confirmed that a new Code of Conduct for Industry – a voluntary set of rules designed to provide protective railings for the most dangerous artificial intelligence models – will come into force in weeks, after the Commission has lost the Deadline for May 2.
The long -awaited code for general -purpose artificial intelligence will describe how providers such as ChatGPT can comply with the obligations of the Act on Artificial Intelligence, which will be in force on August 2 for these models.
The Artificial Intelligence Office will publish the Code long before the August deadline, Gross said, despite failing to succeed the May landmark amid intense pressure from the US government.
