Google took the lead from IBM to applications for patents related to artificial intelligence, according to IFI Claims presented by Axios.

Applications for patents indicate areas of strong research interest, which today is artificial intelligence – and in the US seems to have increased more than 50% in recent months.

“Increasing applications for patents related to artificial intelligence is a sign that companies are actively seeking protection for their artificial intelligence technologies, which also leads to an increase in grants,” IFI Claims spokesman Lily Iacurci told Axios.

In the classification of patents in the US, the Google and the Nvidia are at the top of the list, followed by Ibm, Intel and Microsoft.

Google also leads the world rankings for artificial intelligencealthough 6 of the top 10 places in the world hold Chinese companies or universities. Microsoft is at number 3, while Nvidia and IBM are also in the top 10.

Overall, the number of US patent applications related to productive artificial intelligence increased by 56% last year to 51,487. The patents granted also increased by 32%, according to figures.
