Ancient gold ring was discovered in the city of David, illuminating aspects of the Hellenistic era and the mysterious history of Ark
Archaeologists discovered a small gold ring in the city of David, the Jerusalema site believed to have once hosted the Ark of the Testament. The ring, dating back to about 2,300 years ago, appears to belong to a child during the second temple, that is, between 516 BC and 70 AD.
It was found under the floor of an ancient building and has a red gemstone, and has slightly bent over the centuries. Researchers believe that they were deliberately buried in the context of Hellenistic tradition, according to which young women buried their children’s jewelry under the foundations of their future home.
The Ark of the Testament is described in the Old Testament as a sacred box in which the stone slabs were kept where the ten commandments that God had delivered to Moses and other sacred objects of the Israelites were written.
That finding is the second similar gold ring detected in the same area within one year. The excavation, held by the Israeli Archaeological Service and the University of Tel Aviv, also brought bronze earrings to light and a decorated golden bead – evidence of wealth and cultural influences from India and Persia, the result of commercial relations.
OR David city He continues to reveal aspects of Jerusalem’s rich past, with the case of the lost ark revitalizing. A CIA experimental exercise in 1988, with the help of television, described a box covered with gold, hidden underground in the Middle East – probably the Ark – protected by mysterious powers and destined to open only when the right time comes.
