The 5G will represent one third of mobile subscriptions in 2025 According to his conclusions Ericsson Mobility Report.

In the first quarter of 2025, 145 million 5G subscriptions were added, raising the total to just over 2.4 billion.

In particular, as stated in the Ericsson Mobility Report, the 5G adoption continues rapidly and is expected to reach 2.9 billion by the end of 2025, representing one -third of all mobile subscriptions at that time. 4G subscriptions continue to decline as subscribers go to 5G. 4G subscriptions decreased by 55 million in the first quarter of 2025, reducing the whole to just below 4.9 billion. 3G subscriptions decreased by 19 million and 2G subscriptions by 38 million in the same period.

The removal of 2G and 3G technologies continues worldwide. The abolition of 3G is expected to be faster than the 2G of the next few years, but the timetable varies depending on the country and the service provider.

At the end of 2024, the number of 5G subscriptions reached 2.3 billion worldwide, with a penetration of about 27%.

The highest 5G penetration was recorded in North America with 71%, followed by Northeast Asia with 52%, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) with 45%and Western Europe with 41%. 5G is expected to surpass 4G as the dominant access technology by 2027, nine years after its introduction.

Over 340 service providers have already launched 5G commercial networks, and about 70 have developed or launched 5G standalone (SA) networks.

Two -thirds of all mobile subscriptions are expected to be 5G by the end of 2030

World 5G subscriptions are projected to reach 6.3 billion in 2030 and will be two -thirds of mobile subscriptions. Top providers continue to develop SA networks, and 5G SA subscriptions are expected to reach almost 3.7 billion in 2030.

It is foreseen that Western Europe will have the largest penetration of 5G in 2030 to 93%, followed by North America with 91%and GCC countries with 90%.
