The shortest day of our lives is coming, as scientists warn, and this could be Wednesday, as the accelerated rotation (or rotational acceleration) of the Earth is expected to move faster than ever.

Specifically, scientists found that three days of this summer, July 9, July 22 and August 5, are expected to be between 1.3 and 1.51mm smaller than normal day.

This is because the rotation of the Earth has accelerated in recent years, with scientists observing the phenomenon in individual watches in 2020 and 2022.

The shortest day recorded so far was a year ago, on July 5, 2024, when the Earth revolved 1.66 mm per -year faster than a regular 24 -hour period.

While tomorrow’s day may seem insignificant, researchers have found that changing time can affect everything from satellite systems and GPS accuracy to the way we measure the time itself.

The rotation of the Earth was never perfect, as it shifts by tiny amounts throughout the year, faster or slower by a few milliseconds.

However, scientists did not keep precise records of these changes until the 1970s.

If the Earth continues to rotate faster, experts may need to remove a second, which is called a negative second. This has never happened in the past.
