The annual evaluation includes 32,000 higher education institutions from 200 countries, underlining the important position of the NCSR internationally.
The published rankings bring to 2nd place in Greece the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (249th world), followed by National Technical University (378th), the Patras University (524H) and the University of Crete (573th), while the first Cypriot university, the University of Cyprusranks 619th internationally. The extensive table below presents the ranking rates, based on three dimensions: visibility, openness and scientific excellence.
Ranking of Greek and Cypriot universities
The substance of this year’s ranking is summarized in the following elements:

- Excellence (Excellence / Scholar – 40%): The institution’s presence in the top 10% of the most reported publications in 27 scientific fields (Scopus and Scimago, 2019–2023) is evaluated.
