From 8 to 10 September, the Athens It hosts the 5th European Conference on Data Journalism & Computing Journalism, which is being held at its premises National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA).

The conference opens today, Monday, with specialized workshops in the ESIEA building (Academy 20). Media representatives, researchers, data journalists and academics meet with the aim of exchanging experiences and exploring how the artificial intelligencethe data and computational methods redevelop the production and transmission of news for the benefit of the public interest.

Daily work and distinguished speakers

In the next two days (9 and 10 September), the events are transferred to the main building of the University of Athens (University of University), with a rich program that includes academic presentationsdiscussions and speeches by personalities of the international journalistic scene.

Central speakers include top names such as Cheril Phillips (Cheryl Phillips), Professor of Stanford, Nick Diakopoulos, Professor at Northwestern, Laura Ellis (Laura Ellis), BBC Research & Development Head, Mark Lavali (Marc Lavallee).Dhrumil mehta), Professor of Data Journalism in Columbia and Harvard Kennedy School.

Importance and goals of the conference

The organizers point out that the conference is a point of convergence of professionals and academics, creating the right environment for the development of new practices that promote the public interest. At the core of the event is the new technologies workshop of the Department of Communication and Media of the NCSR, emphasizing Greece’s role as a node for modern data journalism.
