At the center of journalism transformation through the Artificial intelligence (Tn), the data and their algorithm The 5th European Congress of Data Journalism & Computing Journalism, held from September 8 to September 10, 2025, was found in Athens. The work was hosted in the main building of the University of Athens and ESIEA, gathering experts who discussed the rapid developments in the field.

Researchers, journalists, academics and media professionals had the opportunity to exchange experiences on how artificial intelligence, data and computing methods reshape the news production processimproving transparency, validity and public interest in information.

Deepening to impact of TN in journalism, Professor Nick Diakopoulos from Northwestern University in USA noted: “Applications of artificial intelligence in journalism touch every aspect, from production to ‘eating’ news”. It is noteworthy that the first European Data Journalism Conference was held in Ireland in 2017, with the following in Britain, Spain and Switzerland, while the fifth event had a media partner by RES-EIA and joined the Summer School of Computing Journalism & Artificial Intelligence School of the Iq.

From September 8th to September 12th, 25 professional journalists – members of ESIEA – attended lectures and workshops by distinguished experts on artificial intelligence, transparency, accountability in journalism, data journalism, digital transformation and new business models in the media.

Konstantinos Mourlas, a professor at the NCSR and scientific manager of the New Technologies Laboratory, noted: “IQ Media has managed to bring two major events to Athens, with the aim of today’s research results in the field of journalism and technology to pass to the professionals in the field.”.

As he stated: “Our goal is to train journalists constantly in order to monitor developments in journalism and respond to new challenges.”.
