Significant honor and recognition is to take place in Thessaloniki, on the occasion of 100 years since the establishment of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). The Secretary General of the Academy of Athens and a National Representative for Climate Change, Christos Zerefoswill make a speech entitled: “50 years of memories from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and not only”while he will be honored for his rich scientific and academic work.

This important event is organized by the Dean of the School of Sciences, as part of the celebration for the one century of the University’s operation. The fact will take place On Wednesday 17 September 2025at 18:30, in the AUTH Ceremony Hall.

Honorary interventions and awarding

The event will be addressed by the Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Professor Kyriakos Anastasiadis, as well as the Dean of the School of Science, Professor Nikolaos Kantirais. Immediately afterwards, the award of the Christos Zerefou From the Dean, to recognize his contribution to the international scientific community and to the Greek University.

Course and distinctions of Christos Zerefou

Christos Zerefos holds the position of the supervisor at the Academy of Atmospheric Physics Research and Climatology Center, and is also the national representative for climate change. Is distinguished academic worldwide in its areas climatology and her atmosphere.

He has taught some of the most important universities in and outside Greece, has participated in numerous international research programs and is a member of many academies and scientific institutions. At the same time, he is a coordinator of the Bank of Greece’s climate change impact study.

His work has received international recognition, with significant discrimination such as Brigadier of the Battalion of the Order of Honorthe Academic Phoenix by the French government, and the World Ozone Award of the UN Environment Program. In addition, he has received many more awards for his valuable contribution to understanding the ozone mechanisms and the challenges the climate change.

His contribution to the sciences is not limited to personal research. He has established eight Greek and international scientific and educational centers, published over 250 scientific papers and overseen a large number of doctoral and postgraduate theses.
