7 years ago, specifically in 2019, gravitational wave detectors on Earth Ligo and Virgo recorded a signal – a sudden explosion, less than one -tenth of a second – which had not come from a collision and merger of black holes.
The strange signal was named GW190521 but to date its origin has not been identified.
Now, a new study reveals that the GW190521could come from a parallel universe.
Scientists at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences even argue that the signal may have been an “echo” from the collapse of a worm.
Gravitational waves are ripples in the tissue of space and time, which are usually created when huge, dense objects, such as black holes.
According to the Daily Mail, if a conflict of two black holes were strong enough to create a tunnel between universethe gravitational wave could pass through the “neck” of the worm and reach our own universe.
Since such a wormhole would remain open for a short time, this would explain why the GW190521 signal was so short and was cut off sharply.
Dr. Chi Lai, the leader of the research, said – although their models show that this scenario is not particularly likely – however, “we cannot exclude that the signal traveled to Earth from another universe” through a worm.
