New electronic fraud was identified by Kaspersky researchers, referring to a significant increase in suspicious emailthrough which attackers pretend to represent large airlines and airports.

These include Schiphol Airport ‘Amsterdam and Lufthansa, Emirates Airlines, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways and others.

The purpose of the perpetrators is to mislead businesses and to trap them in discussions about supplies or partnerships. The ultimate goal of this fraud is to embezzard money.

Since the beginning of September, Kaspersky’s security solutions have identified and preventing thousands of such incidents worldwide, pointing to increasing activity compared to previous months.

The suspicious emails

Misleading emails appear as official communication by TInternational Airline Supplieswith the aim of attracting potential partners or suppliers for non -existent works.

Once the recipient responds, malicious users send order fake documentsuch as suppliers and confidentiality agreements (NDA), to look reliable.

Businesses are also invited to pay a ‘Compulsory Reprinted Fee of Expressions of Interest(Mandatory Refundable Expression of Interest Deposit) thousands of dollarson the pretext that this amount will “secure a priority position in the timetable of cooperation” and will be refunded once the “cooperation” is completed.

“Cybercriminals are tooling confidence in corporate communications to fool the victims. Pretending famous airlines, they take advantage of both the confidence in the brands and the professional ambitions of their victims. Because the documents used do not contain malware but are just fake, they can easily pass the basic safety filters and look plausible to a non -familiar user, “said Anna Lazaricheva, Senior Spam Analyst in Kaspersky.

Taking into account these attacks, Kaspersky recommends:

• Verify sender: Always check the domain name and contact details. If there is doubt, contact the company directly through official channels.

• Be cautious with advances: Companies do not request money in advance to register suppliers.

• Carefully consider the documents: Check for errors in logos, language and formatting. Small errors could be a possible sign of forgery.

• Invest in your employees training: Supply and Finance Departments need to know how to detect suspicious fraud tactics.

• Use advanced security solutions: Apply email protection tools, which detect suspicious patterns and block fake emails before they reach the inbox.

• Kaspersky points out that brand monitoring helps businesses, whose name is often used by scammers, to detect it early and remove fake websites, profiles and malicious applications.
