The cyberattack, worldwide, continues with unabated intensity, with Greece not being excluded from this storm of attacks. According to Check Point Research, in September 2025, 1,900 cyberattacks per week per global organization were recorded – which, although reduced by 4% compared to August, remains 1% higher on an annual basis. For Greece, the company’s data shows that in September 1,663 per company, a number increased by 41% compared to the previous year.

The explosion of ransomware attacks and the new dangers of productive artificial intelligence (Genai) highlight a complex and threatening landscape. Check Point’s study records the ransomware attacks by 46%, while Genai is emerging in a new risk field, as 1 in 54 prompts is likely to leak sensitive data.

As the research points out, the use of Genai tools in organisms is increasing rapidly, as well as the risks with it. Check Point’s study shows that 1 in 54 Genai prompts had a high risk of delicate data leakage, affecting 91% of organisms that often use such tools. 15% of prompts contained information, such as customer data or privately owned code, stressing the need for strict AI rules and data protection rules.

In the meantime, ransomware attacks have emerged as the most devastating form of cybercrime. In September, 562 cases were recorded worldwide, up 46% compared to the previous year. North America was in the center, garnering 54% of the incidents, with the US accounting for 52% of the total, while Europe followed with 19%.

The attacks per branch

By industry, constructions were more affected and engineering (11.4%), business services (11%) and industry (10.1%), with increasing activity in financial services, health and consumer goods. The main ransomware groups were Qilin (14.1%), Play (9.3%) and Akira (7.3%), with the latter two utilizing rust-based encryption and advanced Runtime tools for targeted attacks.

The educational sector remains the most targeted in the world, with 4,175 attacks per week per organization (-3%yoy), while telecommunications record 2,703 attacks (+6%) and government bodies 2,512 (–6%).

At a geographical level, Africa scored the highest average with 2,902 attacks per week, followed by Latin America (2,826) and the Asia -Pacific region (2,668). On the contrary, Europe has remained relatively stable with 1,577 attacks, while North America recorded the largest annual rise (+17%).

‘The ransomware remains the most devastating threat, while the appearance of data leaks through Genai adds a new risk dimension ‘, The check point Research reports. As he points out, cybercriminals exploit any technological innovation faster than organisms can be adapted. The only effective answer is a real -time AI prevention strategy that protects networks, cloud, terminals and identities.
