A memorandum of cooperation, aiming -among other things- education and research, but also the connection of the university with the labor market, was signed today by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the technology giant “Huawei Technologies SA”. In this context, the students and its staff Aristotle University will have access to the international training program “Huawei ICT Academy”, after agreement with the interested schools and departments of the institution.
The “Huawei ICT Academy” program aims to provide knowledge and develop skills, free of charge, in specialized and rapidly developing fields, which fall within the fields of Information and Communication Technologies and are also related to the subjects of AUTh, such as Artificial Intelligence (IoT), Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Big Data Management, Wireless Networks, Information Systems Security, 5G Technologies, and Data Communications (Data Communications, Routing and Switching). AUTh students will also have the opportunity to participate in the respective certification exams, with direct exposure to industry and the labor market.
In addition, students and staff will have free access to state-of-the-art technologies, standard industrial equipment and tools for the ICT industry and will be able to participate in international competitions (ICT competitions) organized annually by Huawei, claiming corresponding discrimination. The AUTh will also participate in Huawei open source initiatives and projects.
On behalf of the AUTh, the memorandum was signed by Rector Nikos Papaioannou, while on the Chinese side, Huang Hongqi, CEO of Huawei Technologies SA for the Southern Balkans.

In this way, the AUTH opens the horizons of students and young scientists to develop skills, enhance their knowledge and take advantage of the opportunities and challenges created in the global market, in scientific fields that have received tremendous impetus in recent years, such as Technology Informatics and Communications “, stated, on the occasion of the signing of the memorandum, Mr. Papaioannou.
For his part, Mr. Hongchi pointed out: “Today we are launching the beginning of our cooperation with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, an educational institution with a high academic level and direct relevance to the field of Information and Communication Technologies. We look forward to a close and mutually beneficial cooperation that will promote our common educational goals and will be the beginning and the basis for a series of joint actions, aiming at innovation, research, new technologies, as well as the emergence of new talents, through the strengthening of their skills, giving them opportunities for further education and work “.
The signing of the memorandum took place in the Senate Hall of AUTh, in the presence of the professors of the Department of Informatics of AUTh Ioannis Stamelos, Nikolaos Vassiliadis and Panagiotis Katsaros, the professor of the Department of Medicine of AUTh Panagiotis Bamidis and the general director of SA “Technologies” Lazarus.
