Google has introduced a pair of “smart” augmented reality glasses with a built-in computer, which show in subtitles the translation of a real-time conversation.
The glasses, which are currently anonymous and do not appear to have a camera, are the second effort of the American company after a decade. In 2012 he introduced Google Glass which had an “exotic” appearance and with their camera they could videotape what users saw, provoking a storm of reactions due to concerns about invasion of privacy.
The new glasses, which were presented only in video, which showed subtitled translations of the conversations into English, Chinese and Spanish, was just one of several future products the company unveiled during the regular annual Google I / O event, according to Reuters and the Guardian. No release date was given for the glasses, nor was it confirmed that this time, in fact, they do not have a camera.
“We are working on a technology that allows us to break down language barriers by taking years of Google Translate surveys and transferring them to glasses,” said Eddie Chang, chief executive of the company. He described the possibility of glasses as “subtitles for the world”.

The company also introduced the new smaller and cheaper “smart” mobile Pixel 6a. The new Android smartphone, which will be released on July 28, has a 6.1-inch screen, recycled aluminum case, 6GB memory, 128GB storage and two 12-megapixel cameras. The release of the most advanced smartphone Pixel 7 and Pixel Pro will follow in the fall, shortly after the new operating Android 13 that will be released as a free upgrade.
In addition, the company introduced the new Pixel Buds Pro Bluetooth headsets, also on the market from July 28, which feature artificial intelligence algorithms to improve sound and avoid noise. They can be connected to two devices at the same time (eg smartphone for calling and laptop for music).
