Those who come in direct contact with cases smallpox of monkeys they will have to isolate themselves for 21 days and work from home, according to new guidelines issued by the UK Health Insurance Agency (UKHSA).

The directive applies to those who have sexual intercourse or live in the same house with symptomatic patients or who come into contact with bedding of carriers of the virus.

These individuals should be especially careful to avoid contact with immunocompromised citizens, pregnant women and children under 12 years of age.

The purpose of the directive is to provide some principles and rules for risk assessment and monitoring the contacts of confirmed bodies.

By Friday, 20 cases had been identified in the UK. The Telegraph has revealed that among the patients is a child, who is even being treated in an intensive care unit at a London hospital.

UKHSA Medical Director Dr Susan Hopkins told the BBC that new cases were being detected “on a daily basis”, confirming that there was now a spread of community in the UK.

“We find cases where they have no identified contact with a person from West Africa, as we have seen in the past in this country. Communication in the community is mostly focused on urban areas and we mainly see it in people who identify as gay or bisexual or other men who have sex with men. “We would advise anyone who regularly changes sexual partners or has close contact with people they do not know to see a doctor if they develop a rash,” said Hopkins.

He added that the health authorities still do not know where the outbreak of infections comes from and how it manifested in Europe. Regarding the United Kingdom, he noted that “there is no obvious connection between our cases and a common event”.
