Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that the number of casualties of Ukrainian troops on the front in eastern Ukraine is between 50 and 100 every day.
“Today, between 50 and 100 people may die on the most difficult front for us in the eastern part of our country,” Zelensky told a joint news conference with Polish President Andrei Duda on Sunday, according to RBK news agency. -Ukraine.
“They are protecting our freedom and independence, which is being talked about all over the world.”
THE Zelensky used the high number of casualties to justify the rejection of a request to allow men of conscription age to leave Ukraine.
The last time the Ukrainian president referred to Ukrainian losses was in mid-April. He had talked then about the whole about 3,000 dead Ukrainian soldiers since the start of the Russian invasion on 24 February.
According to Ukrainian MP Dmitry Lubinets, the Russian occupation of eastern Ukraine is trying to “destroy entire cities.”
“Political infrastructure is particularly hard hit,” Lubinetz told German public broadcaster ARD this morning. He clarified that these are electricity and water supply systems, but also schools and hospitals.
“It looks like the Russians are not fighting the Ukrainian armed forces, but the entire people,” he said.
That is why Ukraine calls on the international community to recognize the situation as genocide of the Ukrainian peoplehe added.
The Ukrainian government is making every effort to organize the evacuation of the civilian population from the areas where the fighting is taking place, Lubinets said.
He dismissed Moscow’s claim that Ukrainians were being transferred to Russia to be safe.
“Russian propaganda, as usual, distorts things,” he said. “The Russians are forcing people to flee to Russia – they are doing it by force.” He added that many children are among those being transported.
Meanwhile, Russian-appointed mayor of the small Ukrainian town of Enherkhodar seriously injured yesterday, Sunday, from an explosion after an attack against him, announced local military forces.
Enerkhodar, home to Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, was occupied by Russian troops during the early days of Russia’s war with Ukraine. The regional capital Zaporizhia remains under Ukrainian control.
“The self-proclaimed head of the ‘people’s administration’ of Enerhondar, Andrei Shevtsik, was injured in an explosion at the entrance to the apartment building where his mother lives,” the Ukrainian military administration in the Zaporizhia region wrote in the Telegram late last night.
It was a targeted attack against an accomplice of the occupying forces, according to the same post.
According to media reports, Sevcic is being treated in an intensive care unit. His bodyguards were also injured in the attack. According to the Ukrainian military administration, the Russian occupation forces are now looking for two young men riding in a red Audi car. They have also strengthened checkpoints.
