The wider Middle East region has been hit lately by layered sandstorms and have alarmed authorities and experts, who believe it is a result of climate change.

From Riyadh up to Tehran, the skies have a bright orange color. Seasonal winds in late spring and summer always cause sandstorms in these areas. This year, however, the sandstorms started in March occur every week.
Authorities in Iraq declared a holiday on Monday and asked civil servants and citizens in general to stay in their homes for protection. The country has been hit by the tenth sandstorm in the last two months. Hundreds of people were taken to hospital with respiratory problems and at least one died according to the Associated Press. Three more people lost their lives in Syria.
