The Federal Highway Police (PRF) said today that its men “used restraint techniques and low-risk tools” against “attacker” Gennivaldo de Jesούςs Santos, 38, in aof ordinary traffic control.
The events unfolded on Wednesday on a street near Ubauba, a city of 25,000 in the state of Sergipe.
The footage from the video shows two PRF men wearing helmets They try to lock a man in the trunk, whose legs are hanging from the outside. Dense white smoke, which seems to be emitted by a smoker, comes out of the trunk.
Screams of pain are also heard and someone shouts: “They will kill him”.
The man’s legs are shaking for about a minute and then stop. The police fold them and close the trunk.
According to the PRF, the man was then taken to the Ubaumba police station, but “felt unwell” on the way and was taken to a hospital where “his death was confirmed”.
The announcement did not specify whether the man arrived at the hospital dead, but the Sergipe Security Secretariat said that the autopsy revealed that the death was due to “suffocation”.
Jesούςs Santos’s nephew told news site G1 that he had informed police that his uncle he was facing psychological problems and that he was riding a motorbike when he was stopped for inspection. “I was right next door, I saw everything. They put some kind of gas in the trunk. They wanted to take him to the police station, but my uncle was already unconscious. “When they arrived at the hospital, it was too late,” he said.
“It was not his fate, it was a crime. “They acted brutally, they killed him,” said the victim’s wife.
The PRF announced that it had launched a “disciplinary investigation” against the police officers involved.
