Michael Lewis stormed the hospital with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, determined to kill anyone else standing in his way, the Tulsa police chief said.
Oklahoma City Tulsa police said today that the gunman who killed four people in a hospital before ending his life wanted to kill the doctor who operated on him a few days ago.
Michael Lewis stormed the hospital armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, determined to kill the doctor and anyone else standing in his way, Tulsa Police Chief Wendel Franklin told a news conference.
One of the two doctors among the four victims of the massacre, Preston Phillips, had surgery on Michael Lewis on May 19. Lewis was discharged five days later and then began calling the hospital almost daily to express his displeasure with the pain, asking for additional treatment.
Michael Lewis last visited his doctor on Tuesday. The next day, he called again to request additional treatment and then decided to invade the hospital and spread the death.
Doctors Preston Phillips and Stephanie Huzen, secretary Amanda Green and a patient named William Love were shot dead by the butcher.
Lewis aimed his gun at himself and was fatally wounded shortly before police stormed the floor.
The United States – where bloodshed is a scourge but the right to bear arms is enshrined in the Constitution – has so far failed to restrict civilian access to weapons.
