The teenager put up a good fight with the man when he invaded his home and began attacking his mother.
Jan Dzurko, 35, attacked the victim’s house before pulling her hair.
After the incident on Saturday, May 28, months of harassment began in February.
Dzurko, who had no fixed address, admitted when appearing in the Investigating Court on Monday that he had physically assaulted and harmed the woman after being under surveillance for months.
When the court heard how he assaulted the woman, his son came to his aid in an attempt to get Zulco away from him before he hit an object.
The couple was able to escape to Tesida’s safe house, locking the gate to the property and alerting police with a panic button.
The court heard that the harassment began when Dzurko found unwanted flowers and chocolates at a woman’s home on Valentine’s Day.
He threw things when a woman who knew Zulco before the crime told him to go away.
On May 28, the woman’s other children also witnessed an attack that occurred when Dzurko was released on bail by police.
Defendant Io Hesse read a victim impact statement provided after the latest attack.
“This incident scared me and I was saddened that my children had witnessed it,” the statement said.
“It’s been going on for five months and it’s very psychologically draining. I just want you to help me with the drug problem.”
The court heard that Dzurko was trying to “resolve the problem” with the woman when he was at her home on Valentine’s Day.
He started taking amphetamines. It had a dramatic impact on him and his mental health.
Relieving himself, Neil Douglas said that Zulco was not convicted and “it’s a completely new thing for him.”
“He has to try to figure himself out,” Douglas said.
“He said if he had to go to jail to organize things, that should be the case.”
At a hearing on Monday, Dzurko admitted that he had been tracking the victims from February 14 to May 28, fearing the use of violence at least twice.
He also admitted to the attack that caused the physical injury in the May 28 incident.
District Judge Stephen Hood sentenced Dzurko to pretrial detention.
Later he will appear in the Court of Instruction of Teside on June 14.
