The Home Office has been accused of deporting children under the age of 16 to Rwanda as part of a controversial immigration policy.

The refugee charity Care4Calais claims to be in contact with 70 people in detention centers that the government plans to send to African countries. Two of them are 16 years old.

The organization said in a statement: [the two boys] Being 23 and 26 years old, it is imperative to assess the appropriate age before the deportation begins. Our attorney will fight for it.

“A 16-year-old boy saw his brother killed in front of him when his village in Sudan was attacked. He ran away and then said that the whole town was gone.

Meanwhile, Miller reports that a 27-year-old man is away from his teenage siblings in the UK before being sent to Rwanda.

The individual referred to under the pseudonym of Saleh asked the government: “Why are you giving me this when you are not with other asylum seekers? Why Rwanda?

‘They don’t give like ***. I couldn’t take care of it [my brother] When the smuggler separates us and I lose again.

He said he wanted to kill himself rather than leave his teenage brother.

The Interior Ministry denied deportation of the accompanying children to Rwanda, saying “no one will be released if it is safe or inappropriate for them.”

However, the age assessment was also criticized by anti-trafficking organization Love146UK.

Campaign manager Daniel Sohege told The Guardian:

“The number of newborns in 1999, apparently under the age of 18, is very worrying and puts young people at risk.”

“How can anyone, especially those trained in child protection, look at the children we saw and believe they are 20 years old, said social worker Lauren Starkey. No,” she added.

Home Secretary Priti Patel continues with “unprecedented” plans. She insisted: “This is exactly what Britain wants.”

The first deportation flight to Rwanda is scheduled for June 14.

A spokesman for the Home Office said in a statement:

No one will be sent to Rwanda unless it is safe. Adults posing as children pose a serious protection risk, and in nearly two-thirds of disputed cases between 2021 and March 2010, the person was found to be 18 years of age or older.

“If a person does not have convincing evidence of age, a thorough age assessment process continues. They are treated as children until a decision is made about age.”

The age assessment process was developed by the Ministry of the Interior and aims to support children by avoiding identifying adults as children and presenting protection risks.

Appearance and behavior are used to assess a person’s age when such credible evidence is not available.

If a person’s age is a concern, two social workers will refer them to the appropriate municipality for a “Merton Compliance” age assessment.

They are treated like children before deciding their age.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, more than half (50.6%) of refugee age disputes resolved in the first half of this year ended with people under the age of 18.

This compares with 39% of cases resolved in the same quarter last year.
