According to the goals set by Commission for the European Youth Year, the Commission launches a competition of ideas for young people to name the new secure space connectivity system. Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton and Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Commissioner Maria Gabriel announced the competition, which honors the creativity of young people, linking them to a strategic and solidarity plan for the European Union. Particular emphasis will be placed on the African dimension of the initiative, as announced by Commissioner Breton in February.
The new secure connectivity system will be the third pillar of the EU space program. It will be a state-of-the-art space system that will provide secure communications and broadband services in Europe and Africa, meeting the goals of the new digital decade. The winning proposal will be announced later this year. The winners will be invited to the closing event of the European Youth Year, as well as to an experiential information day for the EU institutions. The competition is open until July 31.
