A plane purportedly carrying nuclear material crashed, killing five people on board.

Military planes reportedly crashed near Route 78 in California’s Imperial District, 150 miles east of San Diego and 30 miles north of the US-Mexico border in Gram.

The disaster was confirmed by the Navy Air Force El Centro, about 30 miles from the crash site.

“We can confirm that an aircraft belonging to the wings of a third Navy aircraft has crashed near Glamis, California,” the Navy Air Force said on its Facebook page.

It is not yet known what caused the accident and what kind of nuclear material the aircraft was carrying.

San Diego aviation reporter Malik Ernest wrote on Twitter: “Local reports have crashed a military aircraft in the Imperial District of California.

“According to preliminary information, the plane was loaded with nuclear material, in which at least five people were traveling. Rescue operations and investigations are underway.

Four people are estimated to have died as rescue teams searched for a fifth passenger who also died.

According to the Calexico Chronicle, Radio Chat suggested the plane was a V-22 Osprey.

Marine Corps Air Base Yuma had an Osprey fleet and was heading for the ground after the accident. The agency announced Tuesday that it had participated in the training in May.

The MV-22B Osprey, equipped with the Navy’s Operational Test Evaluation Squadron 1 (VMX-1), transported munitions during an Extended Expeditionary Basic Operation (EABO) exercise at Naval Base Camp Old Highway 101 near Pendleton, California. Said in the post.

“In this exercise, we will continue to evaluate the entire U.S. Marine Corps EABO, enhance requirements, and maintain lessons learned to support future paratrooper deployment and Force Design 2030 goals.
