Mr Klitschko said the Ukrainian army had informed him that the material promised by Germany had begun to arrive, but that the quantities were not what was expected.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko has called for more support from Germany, France and Italy so that his country can repel Russia’s attack, ahead of a possible visit by German Chancellor Olaf Solz, French President Emanuel Macron and Italian Draghi in Ukraine.

The three European leaders are reportedly due to travel to the Ukrainian capital later this month.

“We need strong support, sanctions (in Russia) and weapons from the three leaders of the most important countries (of the European Union) as soon as possible,” Klitschko told the German newspaper Bild, reiterating the Ukrainian government’s request for more ammunition. and advanced weapons.

Kyiv complains that Berlin is slow to respond to its demands for military support.

Mr Klitschko said the Ukrainian army had informed him that the material promised by Germany had begun to arrive, but that the quantities were not what was expected. “This means that we will lose part of our territory, we will lose lives,” said the mayor of the Ukrainian capital.

The visit of European leaders to Ukraine will make the situation clearer to them, he added. “I think you can understand the situation better if you see cities like Butsa with your own eyes,” he said, referring to the Kiev suburb where Ukrainian authorities have denounced atrocities by the Russian military, which Moscow denies.

“When the three leaders see the situation with their own eyes and talk to the people, they will understand (…) how important it is for them to support us. “With everything – with weapons, with money, with humanitarian aid.”

Although Russian forces are concentrated in eastern and southern Ukraine, the mayor of Kiev has said his city is not safe. “Kyiv was and remains Russia’s target,” he insisted.

Mr Klitschko has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to reclaim all territories that once belonged to Russia. “It will not stop in Kyiv, nor on the Polish border. “He will go as far as we will allow him,” he said. “The war will reach the door of Germany,” the mayor added.
