“Turkey is a safe country,” Ankara said after Israeli warnings

Israel has called on its citizens to leave the country because of fears of attacks from Iran.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry announced today that Turkey is “a safe country”an indirect answer to yesterday Israel’s appeal to its citizens to leave the country as there are fears of Iranian attacks.

“Some countries have issued warnings to their citizens in Turkey (…). “Turkey is a safe country and continues to fight terrorism inside and outside its borders.” The ministry said in a statement that it did not specifically mention Israel.

According to Ankara, the calls for withdrawal from Turkey due to “developments in the international landscape”.

“The competent authorities shall take all necessary security measures within the framework of cooperation mechanisms in the fight against terrorism.” added the ministry.

THE Israeli Foreign Minister Gair Lapidyesterday called on Israeli citizens in Turkey to leave “as soon as possible” as there are fears of Iranian attacks.

In recent weeks, the Israeli press has reported on attempts to attack Israelis in Turkey, citing sources who asked not to be named.

The attacks were reportedly thwarted by co-operation between Israeli and Turkish security services, as the two countries have strengthened ties in recent months.

“I would like to thank the Turkish government for its efforts to protect the lives of Israeli citizens.” Lapid pointed out.

“Anyone who harms the Israelis will pay the price, and we will pursue them wherever they are,” he said.
