Animal inspectors are part of an investigation into the horrific findings of 130 dead cats left in the freezer.
They also found 120 house cats and three small dogs alive in the trailer’s “dirty and dangerous condition.”
Most of the cats hid in kitchen cabinets, under refrigerators, under furniture, in sparsely decorated trailers with no water.
Dry matter remained on the floor, but it was contaminated with feces and urine.
The pet was discovered by a local animal charity in Fort St. James, British Columbia, Canada.
According to the BC SPCA, the animals are extremely ill, with many suffering from upper respiratory tract infections, extreme flea invasion, urinary burns, eye infections, dental problems, ear mites and wounds.
Senior security guard Irene Drawer said:
“Because of the stickiness, the boot cover was removed in a few steps because the feces and urine were very thick.
“Many cats seemed very hungry, and as soon as they entered, they made their way to our officers and immediately began eating the food provided.”
He states that many cats have difficulty breathing.
The three detained Chihuahuas are being treated for dental problems, hair loss and care issues.
Inspectors found a dead cat in the freezer while inspecting another trailer inhabited by Vanderhaf’s people.
Drew said: “Anytime we’re faced with the animal harvesting situation, it’s devastating to both animals and humans.
“I am very happy that they called me in time to save the rest of the animals.”
Detained dogs and cats will be cared for by the SPCA shelter and will continue to be treated by a veterinarian.
