Authorities said a California man allowed a killer found on a dark web to pay $13,000 in Bitcoin to kill a woman he met online.
According to the US Department of Justice, 25-year-old Scott Quinn Barkett was convicted of involuntary manslaughter using a facility on an interstate highway.
According to the Justice Department, Barckett met an unidentified woman online in October 2020 before inviting him to meet her in Los Angeles, where she lived.
While there, Lever became “sexually aggressive” towards the woman and ended their relationship after the trip. A few months later, in April 2021, a relative of a woman who heard that Lever was still in contact with her contacted her father and said, “The issue has been resolved.”
At the end of the month, Lever contacted a group he found on the dark web to promote the assassination service.

Law enforcement officials believe the group he contacted was a fraud, but the group contacted the media to provide information to the FBI.

“In retaliation for the victim’s murder, Barkett sent the Darknet Group a total of about $13,000 in darknet payments,” the Justice Department wrote in a press release.

An FBI agent sent a photo of the woman to Barckett, who “confirmed that the photo showed him to be the victim and paid Bitcoin to kill her.”
He then demanded proof of her murder and sent Bitcoin a final payment of $1000.
Berket admitted in May 2021 that he was looking for a killer on a dark web and was paying for the assassination service he was hired for. He was sentenced on September 12 and could be sentenced to up to 10 years in federal prison.
