North Korea says it is fighting a secret new disease in Covid

North Korea is battling a mysterious infection, along with efforts to contain covid-19, secret government officials have said.

However, it’s not clear exactly what “acute bowel” disease is or how serious it can be.

The country says that leader Kim Jong Un gave his personal medicine to sick people, whatever.

However, some outside observers suggest the administration is simply trying to bolster Kim’s image as a leader who cares for his people in the face of pandemic-related difficulties in order to boost public support.

Another interpretation may be that North Korea acknowledges further spread of the disease only when it is severe.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim yesterday provided family backup medicine to people diagnosed with an unspecified “acute intestinal epidemic” in a city southeast of the Korean Central News Agency.

I don’t know how many people are infected.

However, some observers believe that the description of the disease may refer to infections such as typhoid fever, dysentery, and cholera. These are intestinal diseases caused by contact with food and water contaminated with microbes, or by infected people.

Such diseases are generally found in North Korea because North Korea does not have a good water purifier.

Public health infrastructure has also remained largely damaged since the mid-1990s.

Yesterday, the Rodong Sinmun, a major northern newspaper, published a one-sided photo showing Kim and her husband Ri Sol-ju arguing over the saline solution and other medicines they were given as gifts.

This was after announcing a growing number of fever patients after admitting that the regime was struggling to contain the covid epidemic.

South Korean spy agencies said “a significant number” of these high fever cases included illnesses such as measles, typhoid and whooping cough.

Ahn Kyung-sum, director of dprkhealth.org, a website focused on North Korean health issues, said:

“I think it’s true that infectious diseases are widespread, but North Korea is using it as an opportunity to emphasize that Kim cares about the people.

So it sounds more like a political message than a medical message.

Last month, Kim shipped family medicine to Covid-19 patients, according to state media.

The KCNA said more than 4.5 million of the country’s 26 million people fell ill with unidentified fever, but only 73 died.

However, due to the apparent shortage of test kits, the country has identified a small portion of them as corovirus cases.

Many foreign experts are skeptical about the number of casualties in the north, saying reducing political damage to Kim is likely to be less common.

At a meeting of the ruling party last week, Kim said that the current Covid situation in the country has undergone a “serious crisis”.

However, Covid restrictions remain in place and many experts expect it to put more pressure on the economies of countries that have been hit hard by border closures and UN sanctions.

On the other hand, tensions with South Korea, the United States and Japan have escalated through a series of military exercises on both sides, and there are concerns that North Korea may conduct a nuclear test.
