Jessica Cantu (right) was arrested after kidnapping reports showed her two-year-old daughter, Jewels Gonzalez (left), did not kill herself.

The mother, who claimed her two-year-old daughter was accidentally shot in the back and died, was arrested on a sentence of dismemberment.

According to police records, Jessica Cantu, 35, said Friday after her daughter Joyas Gonzalez “couldn’t shoot herself from a distance, not up close” at an autopsy, she was arrested.

“First, the police were informed that the boy had committed suicide,” the San Antonio Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

“During the investigation, investigators gathered additional evidence, including medical reports that found the child did not commit suicide,” the sheriff’s office said.

Quantum told police that she was in the bathroom of her home in San Antonio, Texas, when her 4-year-old daughter was in another room when she heard a loud “pop” on the night of February 18.

Jurtz was lying in bed at the time, watching a movie on his cell phone, the mother insisted.

Cantu and her boyfriend Joshua Christopher Ramirez, 32, had a gun but apparently ran into the bedroom to watch Jurz being shot.

Ramirez was arrested for possessing the firearms involved in Jewelz’s death.

The health screening findings provided reasons why authorities are likely to issue a warrant for child endangerment.

Four months after the incident, Cantu was charged with child endangerment.

The district attorney is not ruling out additional charges for the couple.

Child abuse prevention attorney Carrie Wilcoxon said Cantu and Ramirez are responsible for protecting Jules.

“You’re responsible as a caretaker. If you really take action, you’re responsible for yourself if you know what’s going on. It’s up to you to act,” Wilcoxon told Fox 29. “At that point, we just realized. This is a tragic part. “.
