Brazil’s diplomatic office in Ramallah, which represents the country with the Palestinian authorities, starts a brief Brazilian film festival on June 29. The exhibition opens with the screening of the film “Era o Hotel Cambridge” (2016), by Eliane Caffé. The choice is significant. The feature portrays the life of refugees in an occupation in downtown São Paulo, and includes Palestinians among its characters – a strong reminder of how migration, which dates back to the end of the 19th century, builds a solid bridge between the cultures of Brazil and the Palestine.
The festival will bring two other films to Ramallah. On July 6, the diplomatic office exhibits “Sons of Bach”, about a German who teaches music in a juvenile detention center in Ouro Preto. On July 13, the show closes with “O Filme da Minha Vida”, about a young man who deals with his father’s absence while discovering love.
The show is a partnership with Filmlab Palestine, which works to promote cinema in the region. The films will be screened at the AlKasaba Theater & Cinematheque in Ramallah every Wednesday at 7pm local time. Tickets cost NIS 20 – today, the equivalent of R$30.
