Finnish President Sauli Niinistστε said on Tuesday that he had doubts about whether the dispute with Turkey over his and Sweden’s request for membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization would be resolved before the meeting. NATO summit in Madrid next week.
During a joint press conference with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metzola, Mr. Niniste noted that despite the fact that Ankara has not yet changed its position, it is a progress that negotiations between the two countries are underway.

Ankara claims that Stockholm and Helsinki support what it sees as “terrorist organizations”, in particular the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
The NATO summit kicks off in the Spanish capital on Wednesday (June 29th).
The tension caused by the Turkish stance was also touched upon in the meeting that the Secretary General of the Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg had with the French President Emanuel Macron yesterday Tuesday in Paris. Mr. Macron stressed that he wants clarity from Turkey, according to the Elysee.
