The devastating earthquake that hit Afghanistan killed hundreds and shook millions more.

Houses have collapsed and people are trapped under the rubble.

The quake kills around 255 people and is expected to rise as rescue operations pick up speed.

The Bakhtari News Agency in Afghanistan reports: “On Tuesday night, an earthquake struck Balmara, Zirk, Naka and Guyana districts of Paktika province, killing 255 people and injuring 155.

“Local officials say the death toll could rise if the central government does not provide emergency assistance.”

Relief efforts are already underway, but with the Taliban’s occupation of the country last year, it is unclear how to distribute relief and aid in the aftermath of the disaster.

Residents of a disaster-ravaged country are already experiencing poverty during the winter after the collapse of the country’s economy.

After 20 years of military missions in August, thousands of US and British troops withdrew from South Asia, paving the way for Tullivan’s violent takeover.

“A strong earthquake shook four districts of Paktika, killing hundreds of compatriots and destroying dozens of homes,” Taliburn deputy government spokesman Bilal Karim said on Twitter.

Ask all support agencies to send teams to the area immediately to prevent further disasters.

In 2015, an earthquake struck northern Pakistan, adjacent to Afghanistan in the northeastern part of the country, killing more than 200 people.

A similar magnitude 6.1 earthquake in 2002 killed at least 1,000 people in northern Afghanistan.

And in 1998, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake and aftershock killed at least 4,500 people in northeastern Afghanistan.
