The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall have arrived in Rwanda for the long-awaited Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Government Summit.
Charles represents the Queen, the head of the community, at the first meeting of presidents and prime ministers since 2018, which was postponed due to a pandemic.
However, this visit was overshadowed by protests against the government’s plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda, England. This is a policy that is said to have “shocked” the successor to the throne.
According to a recent Times report, Charles has repeatedly expressed direct opposition to this policy, which he said was “most annoying.”
Charles and Camilla arrived in the capital, Kigali, on the Minister’s RAF Voyager jet.
They were received by senior officials from a small group, including Rwandan High Commissioner Omardar, Rwandan High Commissioner John Busingy, Chogma’s Special Advisor Yamina Kalitan, and Sir Ahmed, Special Representative of the German Chancellor.
In preparation for the coup, the prince welcomed the community’s potential to influence issues such as climate change and create opportunities for young people.
He states: “Joining responsibility to solve these problems means that communities can make a huge difference in the lives of our citizens, and therefore an unmatched power in our world. Becoming.”
The next king will schedule the entire day to meet with survivors and perpetrators of the Rwandan genocide on Wednesday.
In 1994, hundreds of thousands of members of the Tutsi community were killed in Rwanda by Hutu militants.
The theme of genocide and reconciliation is said to be very close to the prince, who visits the attacked village.
This trip marks the first royal visit to Rwanda, one of the world’s minorities the Queen has never visited.
The country is also a “new” member of the community that voluntarily joined the organization in 2009.
Former Rwandan soccer player Eric Muranwa advised Charles to visit a church on the outskirts of the capital where the bodies of tens of thousands of victims of the massacre are buried.
Mr. Maranwa was protected from assassination by his teammates, and was awarded to the MBE by Charles in recognition of his efforts to raise awareness of genocide.
He is the founder of FootballForHope, Peace and Unity.
In April, Maranwa was invited to plant a tree in memory of the victims of the genocide that Prince Dunfree planted in his home.
Chogm will be held in Kigali after being postponed to 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 crisis.
Charles eventually represented the Queen at an event held in Sri Lanka in 2013. This was interpreted as preparation for her role as the next monarch. In 2018 she was named the designated successor to the monarch and led the community.
The event is usually held every two years in different countries and brings together leaders from 54 federal countries.
