Restaurant staff received a warning order at 5 a.m. Sunday and called police, restaurant owner Alice Bermejo told CBS2.
According to police, the 24-year-old woman who left the record was raped with a knife by a man she met on a dating app.
After receiving a 911 call, police responded to the address and arrested the man.
The cafeteria staff didn’t know what was going on the next day until one of the restaurant ladies called and thanked them for their help.
“I often hear about it, but I didn’t expect it to happen to us. Fortunately, we were able to openly help her,” said the cafe on Facebook, described in the post.
“Thanks to the police for their prompt response,” the owner added in the post.
The New York Police Department arrested Chemoi Royale, 32, at 6:20 a.m. Sunday. He was charged with rape, strangulation, criminal sexual assault, false arrest, intimidation, assault, criminal possession of a firearm, and sexual assault.
According to police, Royal was charged with another rape on June 15.
In a statement Wednesday, Grubhub said it was giving the cafe $5,000 for its “simple but unusual” help during the crisis.
