The summit will take place on the Indonesian island of Bali on November 15-16.

The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, announced last Friday that it called both its Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky as well as the Russian president at the summit.

Putin’s participation in the summit has already caused embarrassment in the West as its leaders, including the US president, Joe Biden, had called for the blockade of Russia after the invasion of Ukraine and the continuation of the war.

The Chancellor of Germany Olaf Solts He said Monday that he would decide closer to the date of the summit whether he would attend the summit if Putin did. He said, however, that it was important not to “torpedo” the G20 summit.

For her part, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen was in favor of Western participation in the next summit despite the possible presence of the Russian president and the war in Ukraine.

“I think it is better to tell him in person (to Vladimir Putin), if he comes, what we believe and to take a stand,” Ursula von der Layen told German television station ZDF.

“The G20 is too important for developing countries, for emerging countries, to let Putin destroy it,” she said. “One thing is very clear, it will not be work as usual, that is, normalcy” in relation to Putin, von der Leyen underlined.

“We have to discuss the issue together (with the EU Member States),” von der Leyen said.

Indonesia, which holds the G20 presidency, has come under intense pressure from the West, with the United States leading the way, blocking Moscow from invading Ukraine. Nevertheless Jakarta resisted, arguing that her position as host obliges her to remain “impartial”.
