The National Electricity Company (ENEE) intended to increase prices by 11 to 12% from yesterday, which would affect around two million residential and non-consumers.

But thanks to the decision taken by President Xiomara Castro “there will be no increase (in prices) of electricity due to the international crisis”, especially the war in Ukraine, which is pushing up the cost of energy, Energy Minister Eric Tejada said in a press release he published.

ENEE’s power plants operate mainly on diesel fuel and other fossil fuels. The decision by the left-wing president’s government follows a freeze on petrol and diesel prices at petrol stations, announced on 24 June.
