22-year-old man had rifle and ammunition in possession when arrested – Known to authorities – Charged with serial manslaughter – He is being brought before a judge today
At least three people have been killed and three of the several injured are in critical condition after a gunman attacked a shopping center in the Danish capital, Copenhagen police chief Seren Thomassen said in the early hours of this morning.
According to the police officer, authorities are convinced that the 22-year-old Dane they have taken into custody was the perpetrator of the attack at the Fields shopping center, which is located about halfway from the center of the Danish capital to its airport.
Mr Thomassen explained that the young man was in possession of a rifle and ammunition when he was arrested. He has been charged with serial manslaughter and will appear before a judge later today, he added.
He said the 22-year-old was known to police, but “peripherally”, during an emergency press conference he gave.
Earlier, Copenhagen police said they did not rule out the possibility that the attack was a “terrorist” act.
At the same time, the country’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, for her part, emphasized that “Denmark was hit by an inhumane attack” last Sunday night: “People were killed. Even more were injured. Innocent families, shopping or out to eat. Children, teenagers and adults”.
“Our beautiful and usually so safe capital changed in an instant,” added Ms Frederiksen. “I want to encourage Danes to stand by each other, to support each other in this difficult time.”

Dear fans in Copenhagen,
Please stay as safe as you can, take care of each other. I truly hope Harry’s team will delay the show, at least until the area is 100% safe. I’m thinking about all of you, and I’m sending all my love. 💙 -DDL— Dear diary… (@deardiarylarry) July 3, 2022
