Russian ice hockey players who reportedly signed with the US team fell ill after being drafted.

According to Russian media, Ivan Fedotov, who won the Olympic silver medal, was arrested on the square in Saint Petersburg.

The officials accused the Kremlin of neglecting its work when it was eager for more new hires.

His lawyer told the Russian state news agency that he fell ill and was taken to a military hospital.

The 25-year-old goalie signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers in May.

However, the Fontanka.ru news website reported on Friday that he was arrested at the request of the prosecutor’s office and taken to the army.

His lawyer, Alexei Ponomeryv, told the state news agency RIA on Saturday that Fedotov was arrested on Friday and subsequently fell ill.

He states: “As far as I understand, he suffered from stress gastritis. Ivan feels bad.

“He says he hasn’t received a full treatment.”

Ponomariev denied allegations that his client avoided military service.

Russian men under the age of 27 are expected to complete one year of national service, with exceptions.

Officially, compulsory military service has not been sent to fight in Ukraine, but there are many reports that young soldiers and reserves have been sent to national service.

Selected for the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2015 Entry Draft, Fedotov led CSKA Moscow to last season’s league championship, the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Gagarin Cup.

A CSKA Moscow spokesman told Reuters on Friday that it was awaiting official information from the relevant authorities.

“Ivan Fedotov is currently not bound by his contractual obligations to the club,” a spokeswoman said.

The NHL severed its business relationship with Russia but did not ban more than 50 players from the team.
